The aim of IES: The Lighting Society is the advancement of the art and science of illumination and the dissemination of knowledge to all interested parties.
Our Objectives are:
- To encourage, promote and preserve high standards of professional integrity and ethics amongst people active in the field of lighting
- To develop policies to promote the highest quality standards in lighting and to advocate and represent the views of members active in the field of lighting.
- To liaise with related organisations and government on matters of common interest
- To lead the development of National lighting standards
- To provide a forum for the exchange of information, experiences and opinions in matters of common and particular interest to members.
- To establish lighting education standards and to set, approve and maintain standards for the delivery of lighting education and to maintain a Continuing Professional Development program.
- To encourage and support special interest groups within the field of lighting
- To encourage research and development in lighting and lighting standards and to facilitate dissemination of information on lighting matters.
- To support and promote the societal interests of the lighting community and to encourage participation by individuals and companies through membership of the Society.
- To develop international links with similar organizations
How does IESANZ membership advance the lighting field?
In addition to tangible professional benefits, your membership and participation allows the IESANZ to operate in a number of areas that benefit not just the IESANZ members but also the community as a whole. For example:
Research
The Society plays a prominent role in promoting lighting development and is actively represented on all committees drafting the relevant standards of lighting practice and equipment. Members take a significant part in fostering improved lighting conditions in the community, from industry through to schools, street-lighting, lighting for sport and home. The Society encourages lighting research in industry, government and educational institutions.
Education
The Society provides lighting education through TAFE colleges and universities. The Society develops the syllabi and provides lecturers in the courses.
Seminars
The Society organises seminars on specific aspects of lighting to further the knowledge and expertise of people already actively engaged in the lighting industry. Special seminars are held on specific aspects of lighting and new standards.
Public Affairs
The Society reviews and monitors legislative and regulatory developments that are lighting related at local, state and national levels.
Lighting Awards Programme
The Society holds regular lighting awards programme, and makes awards for meritorious lighting installations and luminaire design excellence. The awards programme is of increasing interest not only to the lighting designer but also the building owner and set the criteria for today's quality and shape of the future.
